The Health Chronicles: Good Vibes! Not Great Sleep lol
A Ton of Improvement, with a Slight Annoyance
As some of you may have seen in my Substack notes, I picked up a part time gig last week! I’m working in a plant nursery during the evenings, and I couldn’t be happier for many reasons. I’ll just make a quick list.
I have done a lot of reading on plants and herbs this year, so it’s nice to be more hands on with this.
No matter the weather, I love my outdoor time. The only downside has been mosquitoes.
The more time we spend outside, the healthier we are. Even someone that skews a little introverted like me needs to soak up sun and interact with humans in real life.
Smelling the different plants as I work, and water has been wonderful. The phrase, stop and smell the roses, is about a lot more than literal scent.
So. Many. Steps.
With this addition to my schedule, my body is trying to adjust but in terms of physical strain I feel fine. I will have to find a better way to try and eat what I need within my eating window (aka not so close to sleep), but the first week was more of a feeling out of my schedule. I think I’ll also be incorporating more intense workouts in my mornings now, since I’ll be getting a lot of passive exercise during the afternoons/evenings.
All exciting things for sure! So, let’s get to some (mostly) exciting check ins.
Did I drink this week? No.
Did I have junk food? Sure. Cereal isn’t great, but it was nice to have some after work this week as a quick treat. Looking forward to switching over to fruit.
Average Walking Distance: 6.6 Miles. One of the best parts of this job is that it’s walking distance! Well, walking distance for me.
Sleep Average: 6 Hours, 17 Minutes. Waking up in the middle of the night and also a few short sleeping stints aren’t great. This can also be chalked up to a shifting schedule too. Found some things that I think will help though. So much red awake time…
Screen Time Average: 6 Hours, 34 Minutes. This was pretty amazing during the week and then you’ll see the significant spike yesterday. College football is upon us haha. Looking to shift some of that to my computer rather than my phone though. We’ll see how that goes.
Average Notifications: 445 per day. Keep in mind these Twitter notifications are mostly from DM’s. Otherwise, it’s score updates and really my most invasive “social media” is Substack, which is great.
I’m going to start some HIIT in the morning, so wish me luck! I haven’t done physical measurements as of late. I haven’t forgotten or been ignoring them, there’s really just not much to report. I think I'll start with those again next week. I’ll also be doing a 39-part college football series starting in a couple weeks as well, so that will be a huge project finished and just needing to be published. Fall is looking up! Enjoy your week!

Hopefully the walking activity can help overcome the lack of sleep and better foods. As I age into my 70's, I find it impossible to know what I did or didn't do to make it this far. Sleep and eating have always been iffy for me. Luck certainly plays a part and perhaps avoiding modern medicine to some extent also has helped. Glad you have lived another day to get healthier.
