Taking my personal account off of my phone for Twitter has been great for my mental health. Kathy actually deleted her entire account. That place, even with all of my muted words and blocked profiles, is a complete cesspool of unchecked hate and bigotry.
Unfortunately, no platform will be completely perfect. There will always be arseholes. However, we can come to a new platform (like here), and make it as clear as possible that we won’t tolerate it. Unfortunately, twitter, Facebook, TikTok, instagram, n many places r breeding grounds for all sorts of scumbags - extenuate on all sides, opportunistic attention seekers, etc.
Absolutely. And in here we can certainly try to get our point across. I just fear that when your CEO is praising Elon Musk for a job well done, you have to plan a reasonable exit strategy for the inevitable decline 🤣
Indeed. I’ve hated and avoided them since they first came out. I tried most of them for a short time when they first launched, n found I didn’t like them. The amount of attention seekers n the pandering to them made me absolutely sick. I left. Even when I was in uni, younger folks (I went in me 30’s) n professors would ask what me facebook, twitter, instagram, etc was. I proudly announced that I had none of them. I have Snapchat n WhatsApp. Some didn’t like that I wasn’t in these platforms n I replied with tough tiddles. Me own mental health n not supporting more attention seeking is more important than ur excuse for more ppl on the site. There r other ways to contact me, I just wasn’t going to give into that.
Good show. Substack is about the only social media I read. No twitter, meta or google. Cesspool of hate and bigotry is right. Who needs that crap? But how long before it becomes another censored site all together?
I feel that I can give an opinion and it is mine, right or wrong. I don't care if anyone agrees with me or not. And everyone should be free to give their opinion. It is the option of the reader not to become triggered in some way.
I read other's opinions and leave it at that. Engaging in the battle of escalating opinions going back and forth is fruitless. There are a lot of things I don't like but I don't hate them. I just ignore them. Some are more aggravating but get angered for more than a short burst is not healthy.
..."The richest people in the world don’t want you to be smart."...unless you happen to work for them. They only want you to be smart enough to buy or consume their products and that is likely how many of them got rich.
Precisely, and thank you for your thoughts. I do agree. Generally I allow the opinions of people that are outright harmful to just go by and not bother me. But I was particularly disappointed with the turn Substack seems to be taking. Can’t dwell on it, and am planning on ways to move forward. Just disappointing really.
Preston and Kathy this was an awesome article. I feel so much of this Well done and thank you!
Thanks so much Jane!
Thank you for reading Jane!

It makes me so glad I avoid other platforms
I am starting to spend less and less time on them for sure. We shouldn’t have to actively play defense for our mental health.

Sooo true! We also have (in general) a refreshingly more mature audience here. Ur quite welcome!
